TCP: It's a Greek Thing

My pick for this week is something I love better in the books but I also like the fact that it was translated into the big screen, so who am I to complain. May I add that I hastily read all the books and got totally hooked so I am now looking forward to the movies.

Well, most movies disappoint you as soon as they hit the screen. Somehow this is one of them. It pains me to admit it that the interpretation and the lack of, was hurtful, but I love the character and the storyline that I am just crossing my fingers and hoping that the next ones are better.

No clue to what I am talking about?

The movie is of an awakening by a demi-God, one who is the son of Poseidon and a mortal woman. He doesn't know it but then he's dyslexic and can understand Greek writings. He thinks better underwater and he heals easily through water. My favorite hero and yet a non-hero, Percy Jackson.

Here's a clip from the movie.

Choices People can Make

I have a cousin-in-law who is currently working in California. She was able to go to the U.S. because of a petition from her dad who is a war veteran. I have been trying to convince her that one of the best thing she can do while she tries to become a successful nurse there would be to improve her skills and perhaps move to New York. To move to New York, she'll be needing the services of California movers she'll have to choose from a list of San Francisco moving companies because she is in San Fo now. I can just imagine her packing up her stuff and probably driving a UHaul. I hope she already knows how to drive.
If you're wondering why she might be moving to New York, we have an aunt who lives there, and she only has 1 daughter who is still single and lives with her. Coincidentally, this aunt is in the medical field and works at hospitals so I think, well, we all think that it would be a great idea for her to go New York. The aunt who lives in New York, is kind, sweet and generous enough to offer lodging to her, and she might get easily employed since our cousins and our aunt works in different hospitals in New York.
But before she can move to New York, she has to equip herself with a lot of training, a driver's license at least, and renew some of her knowledge in her nursing capacity. I know that volunteer work also adds credit to her name and perhaps she should take more classes.
She worries about the weather in New York, but I think if you really put your heart into it, when you decide to do something and make that decision final, you should give all the effort that you can for it to work. I do believe that in the long run New York would be a better place for her and for her family which she intends to bring to New York. I would be so thrilled if my nieces and nephew become New Yorkers. But as they say, I can't decide for her, I just hope that she seriously considers it as an option for all of them. I can just imagine my nieces and nephew being students of New York University, oh that would just make me oh so proud. I think New York will provide them with a tremendous experience as it is the city that never sleeps and I'll be asking about their stories and how bagel tastes.

LTINS: Genie, These are my 3 wishes

My dear Djinn,

I can just rub you and whisper this to you. But my guess is I'm bored, so instead I'll be writing it as a letter so the contract and the wishes would be binding and you have no escape but to make the wishes come true to the letter (pun intended).

I shall give you fair warning, I think my wishes are of the usual, encompassing, outlandish kind of wishes. I hope you do not find any loopholes in honoring my wishes or else, I shall do as Timmy Turner did, and my first wish would be to have a great lawyer.

Kidding aside, here are my 3 selfish wishes.

  • Perfectly good health for all, living, breathing, human beings. I mean healthy. I think if everyone is healthy it would save a lot of heartaches, money, and I'm feeling this wish right now because Paul and Maegan are having cough and colds.
  • I wish for a successful business that will make us prosperous and will make me able to keep sending my kids to the private school of my choice. Make sure that the business you will give me is something that I will be able to manage so that it can last for at least 80 years.
  • Last but not least, I wish we can go to Tuguegarao on December. Genie, make that happen. If not, I'll be perfectly content to attend graduations on March.
What are your wishes? Wanna join? It's simple. This week's theme is write 3 wishes for a genie.
Write your post, and add your link at the linkytools. That simple. Join next week for Write any letter addressed to anyone but written in Tagalog (Filipino).

A Scene in the Future
Time: 8:30 p.m.
Mys: Oh no! I'm going to be late for my girls' night out with Lyka and Twin. I don't want to leave until the kids are in bed and fast asleep.
Pedz: Don't worry labs, I can handle it. I will just use our time-tested and surefire way of getting our kids to sleep.
Mys: Don't forget to shower them first, Paul likes the Johnson's Baby Wash, the blue one and use the Milk Bath for Maegan.
Pedz: Of course, could you please lay out the bed and their sleepwear so I can get them ready after they shower.
Mys: No problem. Don't forget to play their lullabye. Maegan loves that.
Pedz: Ok already. I need the powder, can you get it outside? We used it before they got to school this morning.
Mys: Ok, I'll grab their hotdogs too and throw it in the room. You know they can't sleep without them. Is Paul's Barney beside him already?
Pedz: Yes, it's with him.
Mys: Do you have everything you need? You know that you have to powder their backs, rub their backs, and run your fingers through their hair right?
Pedz: Hey, I've been doing this for 4 years already. I'm an expert. Go and have fun already. Come back before 10.
Mys: Ok. Take care of them. Be back soon.

Assignments...Assignments...Assignments

Yesterday, an officemate asked a favor from me. Her son had an assignment that involves painters and their works of art. It was a fun assignment for me, because I love to learn about new stuff and at least it widened my horizon. It's been a long time since I ever delved into the world of artists and I'm not really the artsy type, though I am related by affinity to an artist and I have a one and only artist friend.

I was able to discover new artists, and had fun while doing so. Of all those I've researched Vicente Manansala's work caught my attention. It looks pretty to me. Making the assignments made me think of my own highschool days and I'm looking forward to the time my kids have to make their own. Who would make a better essay? Maegan or Paul?

One of the best writers I know is my bestfriend and twin, she can whip up an MLA format essay in just a few minutes. Maybe I'll get her to coach my kids when my kids need to start writing for an essay. I wonder if my twin bestfriend can do an art essay too. She's really talented and I'm actually glad that she's finally back here in our hometown and teaching again. I really missed her a lot and maybe, we can come up with the business we've been dreaming of together. But before we brainstorm for business, we have to start doing my daughter's assignments.

Seriously, one must really have to think about doing great in class, specially in writing essays. Even entrance exams for college have included an essay portion for their prospective student applications. It' s just unnerving for me, that instead of things becoming easier, my kids, nieces' and nephew's assignments are getting more difficult and more scary. I wonder if my brain can keep up. I do enjoy the challenges but then as they get older and I get older, my question would be, will I be able to cope?

I've never been much of a writer, mathematician or a leader. I wonder if any of my kids are. I hope my kids inherit their father's genius in math. If they can do math, they can conquer anything. Could that be true? I hope so. I wonder what could their interests be? What are your experiences in your kids' assignments?
