GT: Favorite Accessories!

What you are seeing is a photo of my favorite watch and my favorite bracelet. Taken with hubby's phone - please forgive the quality of the photo. I love my watch because it looks and feels like a bracelet.I usually wear the face of my watch on the inside, so outside you get to see the lock.  The one at the back of the watch is another one of my favorite accessories that I bought online.

The photo from the seller would look like this..

Want one for your own? Visit Shen's Addictions. I'm not sure if she's still selling though.
This is a photo of our wedding rings. I don't have an engagement ring. But my mom did give me a ring which looks like an engagement ring. But then, wait, this is about favorites...so why am I rambling on?

Thursday Thunks

The Halloweeney Version of Thursday Thunks
Welcome to the October almost Halloweenth version of Thursday Thunks!
(which we always seem to post on Wednesday)
Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!

This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by Berleen, the color Blood red and the number 31.

1. So Halloween is this weekend, if you haven't heard. Are you gonna open your doors up or not?

Sorry, no trick or treaters in this side of the world. I'm in a hick little city in the Philippines.

2. You better open 'em cuz I'm coming... what are you putting in my treat bag?

Milky Ways that I got from my Uncle who came from Alaska. Was that complicated enough for you?

3. Since October is the bestest month for television (well for cable & dish subscribers it is) and there is a horror movie on at any given time of the day - are you sick of them yet?

Nope, Horror is my favorite, specially Japanese Horror movies...very intriguing and gives me goosebumps. I'm curious about the movie " Paranormal Activity" though. Seems like it's like Blairwitch Project.

4. Which one of those movies can you watch over & over again?

The Ring, The Grudge, The Eye, and Shutter.

5. Tell us about a Halloween scare you've had....

No scary stories.

6. Did you watch the old Casper cartoons when you were a youngin? Well, back then they weren't old I suppose, but I'm sure you still understand my question.

Nope. Just the movie with Christina Ricci and Devon Sawa.

7. Have you ever found a four-leaf clover?

Unfortunately, not yet.

8. Haunted Houses... you know, the kinds you pay to get in and they chase you with chainsaws and severed heads.... do you like 'em?

Never been to one, so I wouldn't know if I like 'em.

9. Do you use cute cartoon type wrapping paper for Christmas presents or the not cutesy paper? Or are you one of those gift card and/or gift bag people?

Gift bag people or the two-toned christmas wrapper (in the shades of red and green).

10. How long do boiled eggs need to stay in the boiling water before they become hard boiled eggs?

3 minutes.

11. Jason is coming in through your front door... Freddy is coming through your back door... zombies are at every window of the house and Norman Bates is calling to invite you to dinner... what do you do?

I better call Sam and Dean Winchester.
Image from TVcrazy.net

12. Did you know that the scariest part of Halloween is giving all of your Reeses Peanut Butter Cups away?

Haven't tasted it yet. What's scary is to give even just a single piece of my Hershey's Sugar Free Milk Chocolate.

13a. If you were to play a part of a haunted house (not the ghosts in the attic kind), what would you want to be?

There's just too much to choose from. What's your pick?

13b. Have you ever played a part in a haunted house? Nope

14. If Thursday Thunks had a Halloween party, what do you think Kimber & Berleen would come dressed as?

Patients in a straitjacket.

15. Do you cook a turkey for Thanksgiving?

Not a holiday in the Philippine islands.

16. Have you ever read a book that scared the pants off of you?

My pants don't scare that easily and have not ventured to do so yet.

17. Whats the predicted high temperature for today?

We're going to experience a storm, bound to come this weekend.

18. Have you ever howled at the moon?

Yes, when I was at the beach. Probably not howled, just screamed my head off.

19.You are in an alley and a werewolf and a vampire are coming at you - one of them has to win. Which one do you want to bite you?

Edward Cullen, Lestat de Lioncourt, Louis, my top pick - Jasper Cullen. (definitely Vampire!)

Making the Grade

One of my most challenging subjects since the beginning of time is Math. I find the abc and the xyz of math such an interesting and yet an abstract concept. I love that the answers in Math are always exact, but then I get lost trying to solve linear equations in math. Algebra was never a strong suit since it involves memorizations of special products and looking for that elusive value of x,y and even z to the 3rd power. I guess I have to admit I needed Algebra help then. Highschool and College Algebra is so complicated. You should see my Vance book ... it's so tattered and beaten.
Someone who is very adept in Math problems, would be my husband. Have I told you about him? He is an absolute Math whiz, to think he doesn't have a drop of Chinese blood in him and I do. He breezes through any Math word problems and even Algebra word problems. He is proficient in Logic and I just sat dazzled and open-mouthed when he can solve problems in just minutes. He is a college instructor here and he has to come up with challenging questions and sometimes creative Math answers to engage his students more with the subject. There was a rise in the enrollment of Education students with Math majors because of his proficiency plus I guess his looks isn't that bad.
Times have certainly changed. Online tutoring services are now the rage. I'm so tempted to ask my husband to work as one. Online tutoring certainly has the advantages of being available to any student at any time of the day. Students nowadays would definitely take advantage of algebra help and algebra 2 help. Times have really changed and school competitiveness is very much alive. My niece is a classic example. She is and has always been running for honors. If she becomes absent even for just a day, she becomes behind in her work. You miss a lesson and you get hard up catching up with the next one. Here, online tutorial could be handy. She could ask her classmates for the recent lesson and checkout online sites for tutorials or really hire a professional online tutor.
I found a site that offers all day tutoring and they offer all subjects. Wanna find out more? Check out Tutor Vista. They even offer a free demo.

Letters That I'll Never Send: To Someone Gone

I've never gone to a funeral where I cried. You were the only reason I cried in a wake. To me, you were gone too soon. I remember the first time I met you. You were a transferee student. We were classmates in Marketing. There was a school fair and we were team mates. You were the President of the class and I was your VP. I was amazed at how great you memorized every single word in the handout. We got close that first semester you were there. Our team won that school fair, we sold refrigerated cakes and our sales were off the roof. The profit was split between us and the school. I learned a lot of things about you. I promised you that as soon as we graduated and you had difficulty in looking for a job, I will hire you, no matter what. I assured you a job. I changed majors and we weren't classmates anymore. I learned of your demise in class. You went out to a beach and you don't know how to swim. You drowned. It is so sad. I went to your wake. I learned that you told your family of my promise. I miss you. I wish you were still here. Such a sad ending. Goodbye Marissa, I know you're in a better place.

Still about Me and the Tv

With the Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng, one that was really struck by tragedy is our cable service. It was on and off for a while and well, my kids had to resort to dvds of their favorite shows. I am personally considering changing from the cable service to direct tv.I am just learning about direct tv and its advantages. There are a lot of Direct Tv Offers to choose from. Direct tv according to my research is much better than cable. Since when the line is out, all channels are out. Direct tv doesn't rely on a pole line, and so if the cable of my neighbors are out, they just might go to my house and watch their favorite show. With direct tv, you get a choice of how many channels you get, and how much money you're willing to shell out. I think one of the biggest perks that direct tv offers is the mere fact that direct tv offers High Definition. Who doesn't want to watch their favorite shows in HD? I can just imagine me drooling over Sam and Dean Winchester in High Definition. Direct Tv Packages are also very affordable which is a plus for me, since budgeting for Paul's milk and Maegan's milk is really hard on the pocket. I bet, if Maegan can,  she's going to pick which one of the Direct Tv Deals.

I bet she's going to choose Playhouse Disney, Nickelodeon Jr., HBO Family, Animax, and more. Hubby would pick AXN and Jack Tv. I'd pick CW channel, FOX Crimes and HBO.

What about you? Do you think Direct Tv is better than Cable? What channels would you pick?

Tuesday Couch Potatoes: Just Magical

I'm much tempted to just put Harry Potter but then I never post the first thing that comes to my mind. With the topic as just magical... I'll deviate from wizards and jump into the witches. Or we can do magicians too. But then there's 2 that stand out to my memory and I love the soundtrack. It just stuck with me.

Without further ado, my picks are:

Practical Magic

Practical Magic is a movie based on Alice Hoffman's novel of the same title. A tale of 2 sisters raised by their aunts who are renowned witches in the area. They know to throw salt on your left shoulder. Plant rosemaries and a whole lot more. It's a beautiful movie which stars beautiful people. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman play Sally and Gillian respectively. The plot is great too, how when in need, all you have to do is ask for help from your family and help will come. I can't find a clear trailer for the movie - this is the best one I could come up with and this was where I heard "This Kiss" by Faith Hill the first time and I absolutely love it.

Not to be content... I just had to add this one in for good measure. Robin Tunney is amazing in this one. Plus, the song playing on the video is the famous opening theme of "Charmed". I'm talking about "The Craft"... By the power of three times three...I beseech thee. "Light as a feather, stiff as a board." I just love this movie. The trailer says it all so enjoy watching.Plus the end of this video, when the bus driver warns them about the weirdos is priceless.

Other Magical Movies worth mentioning: Harry Potter series of course, my favorite is Goblet of Fire. The Prestige: Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale. For more picks of the magical nature, click on the banner above.

Me and the Tv

OndemandHi! I'm Mys and I'm a tv addict. Yep! That's true. That's why I enjoy joining Tuesday Couch Potatoes and dreaming of another meme called Lazy Couch Mondays. I enjoy staying at home, and watching tv. Did you know that I am envious of my cousins in the U.S.? Shh...don't tell them I told you. For the very simple reason that they get to see all the great movies first, since it's shown there first. I can just imagine being in the U.S. and being able to watch the premiere of New Moon. My heart swells with envy. I could go on and on. Then there are those yummy television series. Boy, my cousins are so lucky. They get to watch Heroes, House, Supernatural, One Tree Hill as soon as it gets shown. I have to wait for the local tv networks to pick it up here, or if they show a remote interest in the series. But my cousins may not know it yet, but if they have Charter Digital, then they get to have free access to Charter on Demand and that means they get to watch any show any time they want. Wouldn't that be great? I can watch whatever I want as soon as my kids are napping as soon as I want it. That sounds pretty fantastic to me.I can just imagine my kids napping and I'm watching the new season of Supernatural. Wow! What's more amazing? As soon as my kids are done with their nap and demand to watch their favorite shows like Barney, Dora or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, they can get to watch it as soon as they want it. No renting of the movie, or waiting for that dvd to come in the mail. With Charter, you get it, when you want it.
Missed watching House and it was shown last night, no problem for Charter. You can watch it the very next day. Like I told you, as soon as you want it and the amazing thing? It's for free. Yep, if you want learn more at charter.net/ondemand.

Mommy Moments: Tantrums Tantrums

Tantrums. I congratulate moms who know how to handle kids with their tantrums. Sometimes, I try to ignore them. Sometimes, if I'm really tired, I yell at them. But do you know what works? I soothe them. Maegan explains why she gets angry in the first place. Paul just tells you No! and then cry. Or else tells you who is responsible for his tantrum. His sentence goes, " Mommy, Mommy, ate!" That means it's his sister who did something to him.

Thursday Thunks: Meme and More

1. If you were to start a meme (or a second or third), what would you call it and what day would you pick?

I started Letters That I'll Never Send, for a 2nd meme... I'd probably pick Mondays... and call it Lazy Couch Mondays --- tv show addicts meme.

2. When a celebrity endorses a product, do you really believe they like it/use it?

For some celebrities I guess, but if they can afford a better product, I'm sure they buy something else.

3. Why don't zombies ever just eat each other?

They don't want to promote cannibalism.

4. If you were an elephant, would you rather roam free or be in a zoo?

Be in a zoo! I want to feel safe, taken cared of and fed.

5. The doorbell rings on October 31st, do you answer it?

Yes, because there are no trick or treaters in our hometown.

6. If you see a piece of paper on the ground while out & about, do you pick it up? If so, do you look to see what it is?

While I'm out and about, I'd probably ignore a piece of paper, unless it's paper money.

7. If Jon Gosselin and Octomom got married and then their own reality show, do you think she would try to get pregnant again for better ratings?

I don't know what to think about them. Maybe, definitely maybe.

8. If Thursday Thunks was to be put on hold or quit completely, would you be sad?

I'd be sad, this is my stress reliever meme. I'm missing the Queen's meme a lot now.

Letters That I'll Never Send: To a Tv Character

Dear,

I was going to write to Lucas Scott, or to one of the Winchester boys, perhaps to Pacey of Dawson's Creek...then they all belong to my past and I don't really have anything to say to them. Instead, I end up writing to you, of all people. I guess, I write to you because I am thankful. Not only do I learn a lot from you, but even more so, my kids learn a lot from you. My kids learn Good Manners. My kids learn to say I love you because of you. I am amazed on how much of an influence you are to my kids' lives that even if I get tired seeing you or even if I'm already bored with the show since I've seen it about a hundred times, I can still smile because you teach my kids a lot. They learn that families come in all shapes and sizes. That Please and Thank You are magic words. They know that good manners are important to everyone in the world. So, what can I say, Barney? Thank You. Thank you to Baby Bop, Bj and Riff too.

Babies are Here and Babies are Coming!

First off, No... I'm not pregnant.

My sister in law just gave birth last October 7. Pretty soon, she'll have to be thinking of car seats Winnie, my distant relative is also pregnant and due in April, and the bigger news, remember the wedding of my bestfriend last June? Well, I just learned that she's 6 weeks pregnant! Isn't that amazing?
Congratulations to the new moms and would-be moms!

There's this site that is the wikipedia of Shopping! It's called Shopwiki. They have the links to anything and everything that the moms would love to buy for their babies and toddlers. Seriously! Shopwiki delivers.Think about this, I am obsessing over toy microphones right now as my gift to my daughter, it's either that or jigsaw puzzles. I head on over to the Shopwiki site, type it in the search area and voila, they show me photos of the items, prices and I just have to click on the link to go the seller/store's site. You can even compare prices and deals since you can look for a specific item and the list of online stores that sell them will pop up. But do you know what's even more amazing about the site? When I ask about car seats, they teach me how to buy car seats! The types of car seats, and I even discovered that there are convertible car seats. The site never fails to amaze me with all the useful stuff it tells me.From safety standards, photos of kinds of car seats possible, did you know that there are car seats that face the front, other car seats face the rear, and then there are car seats that you can convert to something else. The amazing thing about Shopwiki is that it works like Google but geared toward shopping only. It crawls anything indexed by google and shows you the links to stores. So if you wanna start planning to shop for Christmas, Shopwiki is the place to go, because it's Shopping made easy! I'm going to go and buy a practical car seat for my niece now. What about you? What's your plans?

TCP: Supernaturals

I am particularly lost in this category. Should I pick horror movies again? When I think of Supernatural, I think of the tv series which is my absolute favorite and it's already on it's 5th season which is pretty much exciting.

I had to rack my brain about this one and I can only think of 2, which aren't in the horror/gruesome category so I decided to write about them.

From these 2, I had to choose a favorite.

My first pick but not the top pick would be: "Ghost" - a lovestory that starred Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze with my classic favorite Whoopi Goldberg.

I just love the pottery scene and the coin which he passed thru the door and lifted it by pushing at the side of the door and making it float to her. I get shivers and goosebumps in that scene.

Now, for my TOP pick!

Chris and Annie are parents who just lost their 2 kids in a car accident. Chris is a doctor who loves his wife Annie so much, but they are suffering from their devastating loss. Chris then dies in an accident leaving Annie behind. Annie tries to cope, but it's too much for her. Chris goes to Heaven. Annie commits suicide and goes to Hell. Now, Chris learning of Annie's suicide fights his way to go to Hell and find his True Love.

My favorite quote from the movie:

That's when I realized I'm part of the problem. Not because I remind you. But because I couldn't join you. So I left you alone. Don't give up, okay?

Here's another one:

Thank you for every kindness. Thank you for our children. For the first time I saw them. Thank you for being someone I was always proud to be with. For your guts, for your sweetness. For how you always looked, for how I always wanted to touch you. God, you were my life. I apologize for everytime I ever failed you. Especially this one...

Can you guess which movie it is?

Give up? It's What Dreams May Come starring Robin Williams, my favorite actor.

A Twilight Challenge

I'm trying to join this Twilight scrapping challenge to win a Twilight kit. I'm really a cheapskate. Actually, I'm trying to distract myself from the terror and paranoia that the storms are causing to our family. Our house is a 1-storey bungalow. I am imagining the horror of fleeing to the roof and hoping to God that I can jump from the roof to our neighbor's 5-storey house.

So, I came up with this. All paper and elements courtesy of Miss Honey and WordArt by Bethany

I'm still figuring out how to upload it to the gallery of a forum.

I feel stupid doing it.

GT: Shoes

First, I have to tell you a story about me and Shoes. I still submit that I'm not the girly girl type. Contrary to what your opinion may be after showing a picture of a closetful of perfumes which was courtesy of Wikipedia. I still haven't gotten around to taking a picture of my mom's dresserful of perfumes. But I digress...
I only wear high heels when forced (honest to goodness truth!). The situation only arises when I am asked to participate in a wedding as part of an entourage. Plus, I make sure that I buy those heels with straps.
Something that looks like this:

So, it won't fly and hit someone in the face.

Here's another secret: I didn't wear Bridal Shoes on my wedding.
This was for 'photo album' purposes only and was on display in the bedroom the whole time. What I really wore, is of the same brand, but Boots! Just to make sure that I don't trip and fall flat on my face on my wedding day.

I don't prefer flats. I don't prefer flip flops when going out. My constant companion through highschool and college are my sneakers. I wore it with the school uniform all the time!

Still number 1 and my favorite since I have 2 kids who run around a lot is my trusted Reebok Rubber shoes.

What's yours?

Letters That I'll Never Send: To Someone Like Me

Dearest,

I have a lot of things to say, but one which is most important is that: NEVER LOSE HOPE. We are alive, that in itself is a blessing, the rest are just material things that we can buy, wash, repair and rehabilitate again. We must learn from these tragedies. To be prepared even if there's nothing coming. To be ready for any disaster, the climate is truly changing. To learn from the mistakes we've made and to be strong to face whatever happened to us. We should count ourselves lucky to be alive, and to be given a second chance. We still have hope.

TCP: Urban Legends

Today's TCP is about Urban Legends. Unfortunately, I think my post for Suspense/Thriller also falls into this category. So again, my pick remains the same : When a Stranger Calls.
The Urban Legend:  A babysitter left alone in charge of sleeping children receives severalthreatening phone calls. After reporting the calls to the phone company, the girl is notified by the telephone operator that the calls are originating from the upstairs extension. The babsitter flees the house just ahead of an armed intruder who has already murdered the children.

Read my post about When a Stranger Calls here.
If you want to see more movies under the category of movies based in urban legends, you can also check out Wikipedia.
My other picks in the list: Shutter and Mothman Prophecies.
I love the horror I felt in Shutter but it's more of a ghost story than an Urban Legend. But most Urban Legends are indeed based on ghosts coming back to haunt people or just real bad guys.

Plus, if we do the horror route about just real bad guys - I know it's not a movie, but I really like Harper's Island. It isn't a movie but it's a 13-episode series that really feels like a movie.

Lessons Learned from a Storm

I haven't done my usual rounds of bloghopping and dropping and adgitizing for awhile now. In case you were wondering, our province was hit by the storm "Pepeng", international name "Parma". Our city is not safe and dry, though we are not in the news you see on your television screens. But you do see all the surrounding areas and towns near our city which makes it even worse.
My family and I are luckier than others. Water only threatened to enter our home from the front porch. We have food to eat and we are dry. I saw the devastation brought about by Ondoy. You can read and learn from Pehpot's experience too.
I worry though. Electricity comes and goes. My kids are not built for the heat. They itch and scratch and turn horrifyingly red. You have to fan my kids every minute. But that is not what worries me. What worries me most is my kids' supply of milk. We have enough for a week. I am praying hard that Dagupan would be reachable by then. My mom will try tomorrow. Calasiao is so flooded. Binmaley too. You're wondering why I have to go to a different city just to buy milk for my kids?
My kids' milk specially little Paul is so difficult to find. The stocks are few and in between. We frequent one grocery in Dagupan which supplies Paul's milk and scour drug stores if we don't find it there. The same thing goes with my daughter. Paul's milk is Nutramigen. Have you heard of it?

It's just 400 grams but very expensive.Mark Paul can finish this can in about a day. I have to distract him by giving him tons of snacks and rice just to make sure the can stretches to more than 24 hours. His sister was on the same brand until she turned 2. Now, it's hard to find. I've called Dagupan and some of the drugstores have run out of stock. My only hope is the grocery.
Maegan on the other hand can survive but her milk is also difficult to find. She drinks Hi Nulac XL.
My kids were born with an allergy to cow's milk and to soy milk. Their milk is artificially made. I can't even find a photo in the internet. So hard to find. (LOL!) But Maegan can drink other milk, juices, chocolate drinks so I'm a bit secure plus my mom stocked up on the milk of her 'favorite hardheaded princess' and her milk can is 900 grams big.

What have I learned?

From now on, I'll start panic buying on my kids' milk, medicines and my meds too. (I'm a diabetic and insulin may be hard to find specially the brand my doctor gave me).

A tip that I also learned: When you prepare your go bag, make sure you wrap your clothes in plastic. Wrap important documents in plastic. Waterproof everything in case you need to go up a roof when it's raining. Buy raincoats. A giant umbrella.

One thing my mom learned that she's sharing to you. Build a 2nd floor to your house. Just in case.

Thursday 13: Perfumes

Shelves of perfumesImage via Wikipedia
Looks like I'll be doing this a lot of times, then again, maybe not!

This is a combo-meme. I'm putting this entry into good use and joining 2 memes with this post.

This is a list in random order
  1. Ralph Lauren Romance
  2. Ralph Lauren Blue
  3. Dream Angels wish
  4. Eternity
  5. CK One
  6. Polo Sport Blue
  7. Armani Blue
  8. Coolwater Davidoff
  9. Fire Me Up
  10. Urban Flowers
  11. Polo Black
  12. Victoria's Secret Love Spell
  13. Victoria's Secret Secret Crush

Before you get mad at me and wonder why I mixed in some guys' perfumes, my defense is this. I fell in love with Polo Sport Blue before I ever met a guy. I'd smell it at those tester strips and when I sprayed it on myself, it smelled so good. Same goes with the other guy brands. Plus, I just like how hubby smells in those guy perfumes too.

But if you want to talk perfumes, have a go at it with my mom, she has a closetful of those girly stuff. I'm not that girly.

Want to do something fun today? Click on the 2 badges up there!
