The Queen's Meme: my Return

The Love Match Meme

1. Which is more important.... romantic chemistry or friendship?

My answer is friendship. Hubby and I started out as friends, became the best of friends, and now we're husband and wife.

2. Would you date someone who is much taller or shorter than you?

I prefer taller, but everyone is taller because I'm just 5 feet tall.

How about older or younger? Younger (hubby is a few months younger)

3. How soon should you bring up past relationships in a new relationship?

As soon as possible! To get it out the way and just keep moving forward.

4. What is the one red flag you KNOW from past experience to pay attention to when getting to know a new person?

They're looking at what car you drive and how much money you got in the bank.

5. When dating someone, what would you consider the ultimate deal breaker?

He kissed someone else who isn't a relative.

6. Tell us about a date you had with someone that went all wrong.

Don't have one of these stories. The date that went all wrong was when it was Valentine's Day and he chose to attend a rally and all I got is a lousy VDAY card.

7. Imagine you have a teenage daughter. She just asked you to give your best dating and relationship advice. What will you say?

Pressure! Too much pressure! Wait.  True love Waits. Cheesy, cliche, but true.

Letters That I'll Never Send Reloaded #5

 Dear Readers,

Apologies for the late post, in my amusement at just reading Facebook posts, I completely forgot that I wanted to host a meme. Silly me. Forgetful too. Awesome giveaways have just finished and I hope that next time I'll be able to join and offer something interesting. I posted but then changed my mind since I don't think it would be of much interest to you readers.
I want to host a contest too, just in time for next month. Since last year, I did the 10 on Oct. 10 giveaway. October is an important month for me because this domain was given to me on Oct. 1. I am asking for help and looking for sponsors!

So those are just some of the things I need to do. Plus, I'm currently looking for a nice looking template for my new blog. Yay! I have another one. So funny. I can't even update this one and yet, I want another one!

My Musings in Print.

This is my entry to Techie She’s Lucky Blogger Weekly Giveaways Week 9. This week’s prize is $10 paypal credits from Lainy of Lainy’s Musings.

Did you know that my blog's name used to be Thoughts and Obsessions. I miss that name. The thing behind it is that this blog is more about my everyday thoughts and what I'm obsessing about for that particular week, month, day, or that minute. I go through phases in books, sometimes I'm in the mood for suspense, at others I want to be horrified. I would go on a James Patterson book by book reading spree, then suddenly shift to paranormals where I can read about vampires.I go through phases when I watch tv, and even my taste in movies.

When am I usually doing my musing or being absorbed in thought? When I read books, watch movies, and watch my favorite tv series. But then the thought usually disappears as soon as my kids realize that I'm just watching and then they try to own the tv again.

Girls Talk:Birthday Wish

My birthday was last May, I wished that something would be different this year. It came true. For the first time ever, we were able to go on a trip as a family. Though I am still dreaming of a bigger trip where we can finally all go together to the hometown of my hubby. He's from Tuguegarao and we have never gone there. They always visited us here in Pangasinan. That is my dream and that is my wish.

What about you? Care to share your birthday wish? Has it come true? If you want to meet new people and talk about birthday wish. Hey, you never know if the one reading your blog can make it come true. Join Girl's Talk by clicking the button above.

Going Online

This is my entry to Techie She Lucky Blogger Weekly Giveaway Week 8. This week’s prize is one year free blog hosting from Dens of Dens Online.

I try not to go online so much...but I can't. I haven't found the balance that I want. I guess if you've known me from the start, you'd know that by now...there are times that I drove myself blogging. I had my most prolific time in blogging when I joined online contests and when I was trying to win the biggest blogversary contest in the blogosphere some years back. All you have to do is look at my February post and I think I almost did 60 posts for just 28 days.

Then there comes a time when I'm just burned out. I'd focus on facebook and obsess over games. When I get bored, go back to blogging. When I get stuck...I dream of an online business. Going back to ebay or multiply.  Envious of other's success. Then you see I try to blog again. Again, it's the contests that catches my eye. Opportunites to write and gain something in return. Sometimes I just miss ranting about stuff. Just about me. Perhaps I really need to relaunch LTINS again. I'm missing that outlet.

GT: Me, Emotionally

It's been a while since I last joined Girls Talk. I guess I miss having girls talking to and with no LTINS to do yet. What better way to spend my Thursday here.

So let's talk emotions. From the basics that I am learning in my daughter's nursery class. Anger, Afraid, Surprised, Sad, and Happy. Well, it's been a tough road but I'm finally getting to be more happy, less sad, but a bit more angry (naughty, naughty kids.) It's such a different time when I was 18. Full of insecurities upon entering my relationship with hubby. You'd get furious and frustrated with me too while I was always insecure, sad and petty.

I have less insecurities or maybe my insecurities disappeared when I had my 2 kids. My perspective changed right then. I feel as if I'm in a healthier place right now, with more happiness. Do you see the commercial about the soup, where the mom asks, "How long will it take for you to make me happy?" and the kid happily replies," 1 second", then gives her mom a kiss. I feel that all the time when my kids hug and kiss me.

So, how are you? Emotionally, I mean. Wanna share? Join the conversation by clicking on the button above.

TCP: Road Trip

Take a peek into the intricate lives of a young journalist, a band and the groupies. This is what you get when you watch my pick for this week's TCP.

I just love Kate Hudson in this movie. She reminds me of my friend and I, we were groupies of the Eraserheads. But that story is for a different entry. I love her character so much.

William Miller is a 15 year old kid, hired by Rolling Stone magazine to tour with, and write about Stillwater, an up and coming rock band. This wonderfully witty coming of age film follows William as he falls face first to confront life, love, and lingo.

I love the conflict at the end. The band denies everything written by the young writer. Kate Hudson (Penny) never gave her real address to the bandleader (soloist of Stillwater), instead gave the address of the young writer. In the end, they resolved to do the interview again. To redeem the young writer's career.

It's a journey of life, music, passion and love.

Girls Talk: Comfort Food

I'm so excited about the April theme for Girls Talk! Today we talk about Comfort Food.

I go through comfort food phases, it was different when I was in highschool, when I was in a dorm during college and definitely different now that I'm a Mom. I'm not a cook, only thing I can cook for certain is carbonara and that's about it. I've tried my hand in cooking other stuff though mostly soups. I like soups. Right now, my favorite soup and comfort food is....drumroll please.

Everytime I get this from that famous food place, you can bet that I buy 2 Large bowls because I often get attacked while eating by the two kiddos who enjoy it as much as I do. They just love saying...sssooooouuuupppp.

GT: First Boyfriend

Dear Girl Talkers,

I don't think talking about this, requires my bravery. I was very lucky in the aspect that the husband is the first boyfriend. He was the only one who asked. Wait, I think I did the asking. He was and still is.. my bestfriend at my stay in U.P. I love talking about how I first met him. I remember it clearly but not the date (signs of old age). It was the first few days of class at U.P., we were staying at the dorm, Kalayaan to be exact. I had made 3 new friends, future members of the Vampire Society. One of my friends, Irene was taking up Chemical Engineering. She is a great chess player and then one day, she told me about this conceited guy whom she had an argument with. His name is Peds. He is a B.S. Math student and they argued over a chess move and a chair. She was so enraged, and we all thought that the V.S. should teach this guy some manners. They introduced us but to my chagrin, he wasn't a conceited guy after all and it was just a simple misunderstanding. To our further surprise, he was my classmate in Natural Sciences, a class which made us all sleepy since it was an airconditioned auditorium held right after lunch. It was a shared class by many freshmen of different courses. The Math students had English as their next class and they usually were rushing assignments in Nat.Sci. We had a deal then, they would help us in our Math assignments and shared halves of assignments in Nat. Sci, We'd help in English since that was our stronger suit. Freshmens at work. I could go on and on but then that wouldn't be the scope of GT.
We became an us on May 20, 1998. It was a few days after I turned 18, and he was my escort. I brought him home, along with other college friends for my debut. It was an unplanned debut which we tried to make the most out of. He finally asked me to be his girlfriend. He is my first and last boyfriend. I was his second. Don't let me go into my insecurities with his first... please. He became my husband and finally, father to my children.

TCP: Animals Rule!

Whenever I think of animal movies, I always cry. I don't think there was an animal movie which didn't touch a chord with me. Except perhaps Jaws and those animals that turn too large and turn on those who fed and took great care of them.

I don't remember this movie but when I first read the topic it was all I could think about as a movie to present. The unforgettable thing about this movie is that this is the first animal movie I ever watched that I could remember where I knew I cried buckets!

Here's a clip if you don't remember what I'm talking about.

TCP: Commander-in-Chief

Short and sweet: My pick for this one is when Harrison Ford plays the man of the hour, and the Commander-in-Chief. It's an old movie that gets shown in reruns at AXN sometimes. I liked that he was the man of the hour. He didn't succumb to pressure. Glenn Close as the VP here was amazing for me. The story is Air Force One is hijacked, in it is the President and his immediate family (wife and child). Gary Oldman is an amazing villain. Plus, the child gives quick quips as dialogue!

You see the sacrifice people will willingly do for a President as well. It's a great plot with a lot of twists and turns. The amazing part is the President is the one who tried to save everyone else. My favorite scene would be when the fighter jet says it has become Air Force One.

Note: I also like Commander-in-Chief the tv series. It's about a woman as a president. Geena Davis is great in this series. Donald Sutherland as the ambitious Speaker of the House is amazing as well which gives the series its depth and twists. I like how she became the President. The incumbent President gets an aneurysm, and is debilitated. The incumbent asks her to step aside since she's an independent and wants the speaker of the House to become the President. It's just great. She met obstacles from all sides but still emerged as president.

Girls Talk: Chocolates!

Being a diabetic does not stop me from eating chocolates. It just deters me from constantly eating chocolates since I'm not in Manila and can go to stores like SM where there's abundant supply of sugarfree items. I get lucky if I can find sugarfree chocolates. Once in a while, I can find these at Watsons in Nepomall,Dagupan. When I frequented Baguio a long, long time ago, I used to buy these at the Commissary in Camp John Hay. But you had to pay in dollars. When I was really craving for it, I ask my twinsis(nonbiological) to get some for me.

When I get lucky, my auntie who's in New York, sends some of those above and those below.
These are the chocolates I get to taste and enjoy.I think my aunt goes to drugstores and ask for sugarfree candies, that's what she used to tell me. Toffee's are really yummy though.

Anything sugarfree, I have to go to Dagupan which is about 30-45 minutes away. If the 2 are unavailable, I get my chocolate fix on these items which I can easily find in 2 groceries in Dagupan.

These cookies are great and Murray's provides different kinds of sugarfree cookies. There are usually 3 to 4 varieties available in the groceries that I can find.

What's your brand of chocolate?

TCP: Wild Wild West

I'm keeping my entry short and simple this week since I don't have the time to blog. My little Paul is sick with fever and most likely suppressed colds. We're all praying that he feels better soon. I am just glad that even if he is sick he can still be playful and a handful. I just hate it when he starts to feel hot again. I can see how it affects his chest.

Wild Wild West - of cowboys, cowgirls, gunslingers and gold. I'd love to say that my pick would be Will Smith's Wild Wild West but no, though I love the official soundtrack of that movie. So danceable!

I love this because it's the girls holding the guns. With great actresses like Madeleine Stowe and Andie MacDowell plus Drew Barrymore and Mary Stuart Masterson is something I couldn't resist to post!
It's a Rated R movie and I watched it on cable, so I guess I was old enough to watch it when I did, since I didn't see this when it was released in 1994.
Each girl has a story. I remember Andie Macdowell as the one who loves to act like a Southern belle. To know what I'm talking about, I suggest do a little digging at imdb.

TCP: Drama

I had to check what the others were writing first before I launched on to my movie pick of the week. Yes, each week, this is definitely one task that I truly enjoy. Writing about my favorite movies. But then, you may feel disappointed since most movies I've enjoyed are obscure or repetitive. True enough, those who joined this blog carnival did their research and really picked out the tearjerkers. Seriously, who wouldn't cry in Schindler's List? My mom even bought herself an original vcd of that one - a time when pirated ones were rare and unheard of. Plus, it was pricey way way back when. I loved that one and love Liam Neeson for it.

But I always go back to my favorite actor. For this week, again, forgive me I almost always have 2 picks.
Not so much dramatic as in the wailing kind, I still think it's worth a mention would be Good Will Hunting.
I love the fact that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck both wrote the script. I loved Minnie Driver in this movie.

For the complete summary with spoilers to boot, click here. Suffice to say that it's an engaging movie. A genius, hiding in a janitor at MIT, who can prove theorems, my husband loves to dream about. The quotable quote, " I am going to see about a girl." Plus this one too:
Will: What do I wanna way outta here for? I'm gonna live here the rest of my fuckin' life. We'll be neighbors, have little kids, take 'em to Little League up at Foley Field.
Chuckie: Look, you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way but, in 20 years if you're still livin' here, comin' over to my house, watchin' the Patriots games, workin' construction, I'll fuckin' kill ya. That's not a threat, that's a fact, I'll fuckin' kill ya.
Will: What the fuck you talkin' about?
Chuckie: You got somethin' none of us have...
Will: Oh, come on! What? Why is it always this? I mean, I fuckin' owe it to myself to do this or that. What if I don't want to?
Chuckie: No. No, no no no. Fuck you, you don't owe it to yourself man, you owe it to me. Cuz tomorrow I'm gonna wake up and I'll be 50, and I'll still be doin' this shit. And that's all right. That's fine. I mean, you're sittin' on a winnin' lottery ticket. And you're too much of a pussy to cash it in, and that's bullshit. 'Cause I'd do fuckin' anything to have what you got. So would any of these fuckin' guys. It'd be an insult to us if you're still here in 20 years. Hangin' around here is a fuckin' waste of your time.

Chuckie is Ben Affleck and Will is Matt Damon.

One that I also really like but am too lazy to write about is another one with Robin Williams. In this movie, Robin Williams plays one who admitted himself as a mental patient, declares himself cured, then goes on to become a doctor to try and help people.

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms,
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

This is poem by Pablo Neruda. It is Sonnet 17 of Neruda’s 100 Love Sonnets available in English translation by Stephen Tapscott. It was a poem that Patch was trying to say to Carin to tell her how much he loves her. The part that always made me cry in this movie is when Carin dies, after trying to become open to patients. A psycho killed her. Patch was never able to finish saying this poem to her. He was only able to do so at her funeral.
