Tuesday Couch Potatoes: Favorite Disney Fairy Tale

I had to really refresh my thoughts with this one. There are lots of stories that we all grow up with and now I intend to share with my kids. Then, after thinking long and hard, I came up with the one that had the most impact - culturally to me. My pick for Favorite Disney Fairy Tale is Mulan.

Mulan is a story close to my heart first and foremost because the female character is Chinese. I'm not sure if I've already shared it with you but my grandfather is pure Chinese. I have never met him and I didn't go to Chinese school so I missed out on a lot of things but this movie did show me how Chinese daughters are expected to act.

In a sentence, the plot of Mulan centers on a young woman who disguises herself as a man to take the place of her elderly father in the army. She doesn't want her father to take part in the war, so she goes in his stead. My favorite part in the movie is when she's asked to go home and quit. She retrieves the arrow from the totem pole by doing something ingenious. The brass amulets become intertwined and she got to use it as a force to propel her upward from the totem pole. I just love the scene when she throws down the arrow at Captain Shang's feet.

Well, I love the fact that a woman saves the day and I'm all for women empowerment and this fairy tale was it. I also love damsels in distress but then this one touched me more than all the rest of the fairy tales.

Mommy Moments: Hats!

mommy moments

Both my kids like to wear them. Party hats however are prone to getting torn off each other's heads so make sure that you have enough handy and that there's always 1 for each of them. In the photos, they're both wearing the same cap, they love that one. Paul loves it the most though. I feel as if they're gangsters when they wear it. Paul usually wears the cap on himself and calls it a hat. Maegan wears a bigger hat but funny thing is I never got a picture of her wearing it.They usually wear hats when they go to our backyard (yes, we have one) and at parties. Maegan wore a party hat on her birthday. Paul got to wear that party hat when we went to a Jollibee and we were the last ones there and we ordered lots of food so they gave away a lot of things to us.

What's your hat story? For more moments like these, click on the banner above.

Thursday Thunks: September 10 edition

Dying, Buying, Eating, & More

Welcome to the September 10th version of Thursday Thunks!
(which we always seem to post on Wednesday)
Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!
This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by
Kimber, the number 999 and the color of a butterfly sitting on a red rose.

1. A 90 year old man's dying wish in South Carolina was to be buried in his car. Link If you were told tomorrow you have 3 weeks to live, would you have any dying wishes or something special done before you died?

If I were told that I had 3 weeks to live tomorrow, I'd go to an attorney and make a will. Write letters to my mom, dad, husband, daughter and son. All the things I have/own divide up them between my husband, kids, mom, and other friendly relatives. Write blog posts of goodbye. Videotape some stuff for my kids to watch. Sell stuff on ebay that's sellable so my family can profit from them.

2. Do you pay for more stuff using a credit/debit card or cold hard cash?

Cash borrowed from a credit card.

3. What's cuter- a baby lizard or a baby snake?

I'd probably pick the lizard. Thought I don't find any of the 2 cute.

4. You go out to eat by yourself at a restaurant. While waiting for your food do you people watch & easedrop on others conversations, read a book, use a laptop or chat with people around you?

Read a book.

5. If you see someone walking around with toilet paper stuck to their shoe, do you tell them or just laugh?

Haven't ever encountered that particular incident, but I'd probably tell them to avoid their further embarassment.

6. You are talking to someone you just met but you can't understand them at all because of their accent. Do you tell them you can't understand them or just smile and nod?

Smile, nod, then politely say I don't understand what your saying.

7. Mudfest! Park filled with pools of mud and an obstacle course of mud. Do you go and play in the mud?

I don't think so. Wouldn't go near it.
8. Have you ever had a headache so bad it effected your vision?

Never, thank God!

9. Would you fit in more with the circus, Hollywood, Broadway, or comedy circuit types?
I'd love to say hollywood,  - as a writer not as an actress.

To my Favorite Author

I don't think there has ever been anyone else that I really liked until I learned about you and your books. Your book changed my life forever. I can still remember the day that it happened, though not the date. My autograph came back to me and my crush had written that the person he admired the most is Lestat de Lioncourt. The obsessive person that I am, I didn't stop until I found out who this person was and what did he do to deserve such an admiration. That's when I met you. I saved my allowance and bought your books one at a time. I'm proud to say that I wasn't a pirate then, though I did try to scour thrift shops where I could buy your books.I am even more grateful to you because having you in my life solidified the friendships I formed in college. We became book readers, book lovers and even a coven. We could go on for hours discussing what you've written. Dreaming of immortality, choosing our makers, and who will be our fledglings. Arguing over our favorite books in the series, favorite quotes and of course our favorite characters. I chose Akasha, the Queen of D**ned. I loved her concept, that for peace to reign, there must only be females and a handful of men. My favorite male character was of course, Lestat, the brat prince... and yet my favorite book was Memnoch the Devil. You gave me the more reason to have Faith and Believe because of the frightening revelations you wrote in your book. I write this to say Thank you. Thank you for making those stories and making me learn to love my mortality.

Thank you Anne Rice!
